Front Brake Problem

my explorer has been making a draging sound on the driver side front brake. and the ABS light would come on after the sound goes away. Then the sound would happen again. its been happening more and more frequently.

i didnt think much of it until i took it off road on some trail the other day (stock) and when i got back home there was a burning smell around the brake. has anyone else had that problem or know what the hell is going on?

to me, im thinking that the brake is stuck or something.

Sounds to me like you have worn your pads clean into the rotor! The good news is that for $30 a piece you can get new rotors with the bearing races already pressed in, and with the ABS ring in it from O'reilly auto parts. That's where I got mine, and I've been very happy for 2 months now.

i guess i forgot to mention that they were all just replaced.

My guess is, something is binding up. Could be the caliper pistons, or the slide pins need lube or replacement.

yeah, if everything is new, then I would say check the slide pins. Did you use high-temp brake lube when you put them back in?

Also, I don't know if it is possible or not, but check the ABS sensor to make sure it isn't out of it's mount and scraping on the sensor ring. (Just something else to check)
