Front bumper question

Im kind of new into the Explorer thing..but i have allready noticed that there are a lot of different front bumper for 2002 Explorer..
my car is a 02 XLT.
since i have to buy a new front bumper i wonder if i can put from another model. like to sport for example
if so will the front lights fit? or do i have to but another set of them?

Nope.. the only real options you have for this are the XLS bumper (the plain bumper with the two square indents towards the middle) and the XLT bumper (with the spots for lights on each side). I've seen some XLT bumpers that don't have the spots for the lights, but those just have have slightly different plastic panels where the lights normally go.


Otherwise, you're looking at a custom solution like Donner's or the massive metal Australian bumper that's been posted on here a few times.

I just have the extra XLS bumper, no extra parts here. try searching on eBay. Theres a link for one for sale now, it's just the bumper cover though (the plastic bumper) and doesn't come with the shock absorber or any of that stuff behind the plastic cover piece.

is there any difference between a bumper and a bumper cover?

Typically, your bumper is the whole assembly.

but for example you can buy for other cars a dashcap that covers the broken dash
is a bumper cover a "real" bumper or just a cap that you put over a bad bumper?

It's a real bumper, it's just the plastic piece of the bumper. I only bought a bumper cover because nothing was wrong with my bumper assembly, I just wanted foglights. If the only thing that's bad on your bumper is the plastic cover then that's all you need, however i doubt that being as you stated you needed a hood and fender as well.

Take it to a body shop, get a free estimate and get the print-out. It will tell you what you need. Or just ask the guy doing the estimate. Better safe than sorry.
