Hey guys. I screwed up my front bumper just an hour or so ago. I am looking into options for replacement. i don't know what I should do so I posted this poll to see weather people think I should just replace it with a 95 ford bumper, or a 99-2001 ford bumper. please vote so I can be helped in this dicision. Also if anyone is selling a front bumper, e-mail me!!!

I say make your own or have one made the way you want.. You can get a much better approach angle and have that custom look at the same time.. (and give you more room for tires).

I prefer the look of the bumpers on the newer 99-01 models. I'm not entirely sure if one will fit, but if you can slap one of those on the front of a 95, I say definitely go with one of those. Put a pair of PIAA 910s where the factory lights are and your all set.

Thats too bad Travis, how'd the bumper get messed up?

I personally dont like the new bumpers, they're too wide and slim. They increase the approach angle for sure, but I think the truck looks better with the thicker bumper.

personally, i dont like the 99-01 bumpers, i dont like the round lights and all the plastic, if i was you, i would go for the 95-98 bumper, just my opinion

sorry ttttttt..........that really blows...................

monochromus, how the blue dome lights?
travis, how's the bumper search goin man. sorry about that again, wood and i were thinkin about giving you a few bucks for the damage, that cool?

the dome lights are great, the blue hasnt come off yet, so its all good!

now what did you do to his bumper jas, i want to hear this ;)

Story Time!!!

C'mon Jas what dya do to his bumper :>

I already scratched up my front bumper pretty good off roading too due to its terrible approach angle. The Manik grill guard didnt help a bit. I think i need a new bumper too.

STORY

Here's the story:
I go over to one of Jason's friends houses to pull out a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (yes the one with the all new quadra drive that doesn't get stuck....LOL) it was stuck in the ditch. Well I pulled it out no problem, and when I was leaving I drove through the same ditch with my truck (with some persuasion from a few spectators (not mentioning any names)). Well, I was moving pertty good so I made sure I didn't get stuck, but that ditch was steeper then I thought and planted the front bumper into the ground on the other side of the ditch. I had enough momentum to get me on the road and i drove a bit and stopped to find out my lower valance and fog lights had been broken off and I got a dent in the center front of the bumper. it also got tweaked a little and by the driver's side tire the top of the bumper sorta made a small, unnoticable dent in the bottom of the fender.
There is my story.

I'd be one of those spectators, and wow was that impressive. the x took that pretty well only fairing with some body damage. i am glad the X is in one piece and that you didnt have any internal problems. it sux though that bottom stuff busted up. feel guilty

The suspension on the Explorer must be a lot tougher then I thought. After the impact I figured alingment would be off or whatever, but it still tracks perfectly straight. I did notice, under close inspection, that the front suspension compressed to it's maximum during that incident. I can tell because the tires actually rubbed against the top of the front wheel wells. It was very minor and would not happen on I stock explorer i don't thik. it only happened to me because I just got bigger tires (30X9.5 on 16" rims).

You're right about them being tough.
There are some train tracks behind my house and the way the road is built up to them it makes it like a big ramp. One night after some encouragement from some friends and a little stupidity from hitting the bottle, I jumped them at ~90mph. (I know, I know, REALLY STUPID of me in a 2.5 ton vehicle.) I caught major air (felt like 3 or 4 seconds) and came slamming down hard enough that the guys in the back hit their heads on the headliner and the cooler in the back turned over. Made a terrible noise as the front tires hit the fender wells and the shocks bottomed out and so on... Next day the suspension still felt fine and everything's still lined up.

BTW guys, learn from my mistake. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT use your Explorer to jump ramps. It was scary as crap and I came really close to losing it and probably rolling when I landed. Jumping ramps is best left for Motocross.

wow thats crazy, i can't believe you did that, ya the explorers can handle a lot, why do you think they are on truck frame and suspension?

There are trax by my house that I can (and have) jumped only going 30 MPH..thats at leats safer then 90 mph..lol

96 Limited Front Bumper- LOL :)

Stephen- lol... thats the plan!
Well he e-mailed me to ask so I figured would post it- its just collecting dust
night all

marc, what travis and i were working out was to get that black limited bumper to match MY black 96xlt, and throw off the old parts that aren't painted to travis. i'd be willing to do this if travis paid me some cash to get the black bumper and if you'd give a good deal on this marc.

I wonder how the Limited's bumper would look on an XLT? It'd look really good if you could somehow replace that grey painted trim in it with a chrome strip of some kind.
