i just bought a pair of BDS 1.5-2 in. front coils from a guy who had them on the front end of his mazda pick-up. i planned on doing this install myself, even though he misplaced the original instructions. a friend who installed the lift on his cherokee said, "sure, it cant be that much different than mine". but another friend with a J**p said they can be set wrong, and really screw up the ride and possibly harm the truck. he advised me to go to a shop. he is however made of money, which i of course am not. has any one done this install? was it very difficult? or if anyone has these coils, do you still have your install instructions? any help would be greatly apreciated.

Hello Tom,

The process is fairly simple.

#1. Jack the vehicle up and support it with jack stands.

#2. Remove the front wheels, shocks and disconnect the sway bar. You may want to remove the calipers (Make sure they are supported and don't let them hang by the brake lines.) Otherwise do one side at a time and use a jack to support the axle.

#3. Remove the retaining nut, cap and seat at the bottom of the spring. Just the nut, not the bolt.

#4. Remove the spring by twisting it out of the top mound and sliding it off the the bottom.

Reassembly is basically the reverse but you might want to rent a spring compressor if you do not remove the calipers as the new springs are much larger.

Get an alignment as soon as possible but note that it will probably require special shims that will run about $50.00 extra.

Lastly, a few days before you start, begin spraying all the nuts and bolts with WD40 or Liquid Wrench. It will make life much easier.

Hope this helps.

One item that was in my James Duff instructions that does seem to help is to look at the where the springs are before you remove them. Just look at where the end of the spring is. When you put the new spring in make sure the ends of the new spring are where the ends of the old spring was (the top is the important one). If you don't have it the right way the spring kinda moves/creaks around.

I can tell you from experience that it is easier to remove the spring by using a deep socket and lots of extensions and getting at it from the top.
