I think your 97 is like my 95.... in which case all the speakers are 5x7 or 6x8 (same size)... but I could be wrong

if you feel like modifying the door to hold 6 1/2, you could do it. i'm sure plenty of people already have. but it's just easier to put in the 5 1/4s.

well even if i put the round 5 1/4s in won't I have space left over if they fit 5x7s??? If so what could i put around them and how could i make something to fit those 6 1/2s?? thanks
Josh

I put in 6 1/2 components in the front. I bought a pair of plastic 6x8 to 6.5 Metra adapter plates ($15 - part 82-5600) from Circuit City. Three screws went through speaker into factory plastic mounting plate. One screw did not line up so had to drill a new hole. No problems. The more time consuming part was attaching the crossover box to the door and have the door panel fit over it nice. To allow for repositioning I found it easiest to mount a piece of thin wood bigger then the crossover, then attach the crossover to it. I suppose I could have just drilled through the metal door a couple of times, but didnt feel getting new drill bits.

Yup, buy some adapter plates or make your own and the 6.5s will drop into the door easily.

peace

Mike

has anybody used the metra adapter plates that allow a 6x9 in the stock openig? will they even work with our door panels?

A 6.5 will fit no problem! I have the RF Fanatic Q's in my doors and rear. Sounds great and Good luck!
