Did you pack grease in the HUBs?

hence the quote from my first post "repacked the wheel bearings" :D . I think i might have figured it out. the guy i bought it from said he replaced the front wheel bearings but i am now thinking that the noise i am hearing is the rotor abs ring rubbing on the end of the abs sensor. i think that there might just be enough play in the wheel bearings that the are just letting the rotor move a bit so it contacts the abs sensor. i noticed when i first dissasembled the front end that the end was a little bit "beat". i did tighten the front wheels to 65 backed off a 1/4 turn and retorqed to 15 so this is the only thing that makes any sense to me! :wtf:

my explorer makes a wicked clicking noise when I come to a stop slowly, it's been hooked up to the computer, didn't show anything, replaced all 4tires and brake pads, mechanic says it has something to do with the abs sensor...

it seems like you should be able to shim them out. i wonder what the clearance is supposed to be. haynes doesnt say anything about them.

Ok, so you did pack the hubs... nice... Do you realize hubs (both autos and manuals) are a dry assembly? They only require a thin film to prevent rust no more. Packing them will cause them to become hydrolocked and cause the engagement cam to chatter..

:D sorry didnt pack the hubs, packed the bearings. the hubs i soaked in synthetic atf and drained out before reinstalling as per the advice on the site. i am almost positive it is worn bearings causing the rotor abs ring to rub on the abs sensor. i am going to replace the bearings on the 15th (re payday) and see if that makes a difference. might also replace the abs sensor at the same time as it is pretty beat up. not failed yet but why wait.:D

I have noticed the same clicking sound, but only as I turn left going through the Tim Horton's drive through:burnout:
