Front End Road Noise

I have a 1996 4X4 and have some road noise coming from the front end (it sounds like and not the tires). I took it to a place and they suggested to replace the front wheel bearing assemblies. I did one side and it seemed to help a little (Only one side because it was so expensive). The noise can be heard more while driving slow.

Anyone had a similar problem/situation?

what kind of noise exactly were you getting and when? Did you replace both sides yet?

I haven't replaced the other side yet. You can hear it better at a slow speed. It sounds sort of like a low pitched slight grinding noise. It is higher pitched at higher speeds. I haven't had my front and rear differentials serviced for about 35k miles. I have done no offroad driving. I am thinking of having the diff's done to see if that helps.

that happend to me once before, i just cleaned out my 4wd hubs and regreased em, it stopped after that. try that and see how it goes.

I had a similar problem on my 2000 X. There was a high pitched noise that increased as the speed increased and it was the bearing dust seals that were causing it. This is the seal for the inner bearing and the only way to get to it is to remove the hub assy. It would be worth trying to lubricate them to see if the noise goes away but taking off the hubs makes it a PITA. I hope this helps.

BTW: Before I found this out, I replaced both hub assy's trying to figure it out.
