not quite. I have the base, and the grill is sort of a flat gray color. does not match the silver in color or texture. the xlt might match better as it,s grill is silver
yep, looks pretty good, and my 20 take offs are coming next week. should look pretty nice. I like the black trim better than the chrome. I'll post a pic when mounted.
Once I had just the piece to be painted separated from the black backing and chrome trim parts, I took the piece to my local body shop and had them spray it for me. He did not even have to prep it I don't think, and the paint is holding just as well as the front bumper so far. I wanted to make sure I had a durable automotive grade paint with the proper flexible properties for plastic, as the large front of this car takes a beating frome rocks and bugs. As I did most of the hard part, having it sprayed loose was not too expensive.

In all honesty its easier to remove the entire front fascia from the vehicle and then remove the grill. Thats what I did when I painted my grill. Its only a matter of a few bolts and pins on top, some screws underneath the facia, and a couple hidden screws along the wheel well. But it comes off real easy. And makes taking the grill apart much easier..

My buddy does all the local police car setups. On the 2018 Explorer the grill is a horror to remove. Besides the obvious top screws you need to remove the headlight housings, wheel well moldings and remove the bumper, about an hours worth of work.
