Yes You can buy them, yes they're not expensive, and yes they are a Ranger part, but they won't work on an Explorer, unless you swap in the axles and hubs from a 98-00 Ranger.

Doable, yes, apparently. My point was you can't just buy the aftermarket locking hubs and throw them on a gen 2 Explorer.
Not sure if anyone here has actually done the parts swapping necessary to make the hubs work on an Ex, seems like it would be a popular thing.
Interestingly, here's a how to link that shows how to switch the Ranger PVH hubs to the gen 2 Explorer live axle system, just the opposite of what we're discussing. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/99hubswap.shtml
Don't know why Ranger guys would want to do that. Maybe it's like how women with straight hair want curly hair, and curly haired women straighten their hair.
I"he seen it on a forum, I thought it was this one. The process didn't look too complicated but the only information I retained was Ranger parts and not expensive.
I've got not idea how I could find the thread now.
That might have been what I saw a and I turned it around in my mind as a possible Ex mod.
No, probably not. I remember there were links to buy the PVH parts new.
.
It doesn't look too hard but I read it on my phone.
I have done it so have a few others , its not exactly cheap, you need the hub bearings , half shafts , seals and clips , and a set of AVN hubs , I did it on a 99 mountaineer with a manual transfer case swap and I have all the same parts to do this to my V8 sport when I get the time
