My 2016 sport front park assist feature gets excited and experiences inconsistent premature beeping ;) when I'm approximately over 2' from an object (curb, pole cars in traffic etc). I feel like I'm just to far away for it to beep especially in traffic when I'm not tailgating. Anyone else experience this issue?

That is indeed odd. I have not experienced it or recall any other 16 owners reporting this. Could be a good thing though if you let a crappy driver operate your explorer.

In reading the Manual, I get the impression that the Front Pak Assist is just that. It is used for parking. Not sure why you would have it on while driving in traffic. With the feature ON when driving in traffic the system will think that you are looking for a parking space and will trigger alarms as necessary. I think 2 feet would be an optimum distance to begin triggering the system when parking. It isn't designed to take the place of the Pre Collision Assist system. I think that the Front Park Assist should be turned OFF if you aren't looking to park.

It comes on automatically when you start the car. I would have to turn it off every time I start the car ;-/

From the manual. "The front sensors are active when the
transmission is in any position other than
park".

You are right. I guess I was confusing Front Parking Aid with Active Park Assist. In any case it sounds like 2 feet is probably an accurate distance to begin alarming since the alarm is supposed to be steady at 12 inches. It seems that you can disable the rear Parking Aid but not the front.

Yeah, I figured I was stuck with it. I like the function but it can get annoying sometimes.
Thx.

2016 Explorer XLT Parking sensors issue

Anyone have issues with front parking sensors going off when driving? Mostly occurs when slowing to a car in front of you at a stoplight or similar. Also occurs sometimes when raining or snowing. Drives me crazy dealer told me no way to turn off and I need to keep them clean. How is that supposed to happen when it's raining or snowing. Any feedback appreciated

Your thread was merged with this one on similar issue.

Mine does this at times in stop and go traffic/traffic lights, etc. Annoying but I guess it's in it's nature of "slow speed, look for dangers"

If the sensors get dirty, snow, or heavy rain covered this can happen. Not a Ford specific issue as this has shown up in BMW and Mercedes vehicles I have owned. Keeping the car clean will help reduce the amount of false readings.

BTW; the sensors can still be dirty after rinsing the car off. Sometimes it takes more than rolling through a car wash...

+1 for "premature" warning when the sensors are covered in snow and ice (haven't had them covered in mud yet).
Now that I think about it, is there a sensitivity setting to have the warning come on at a closer range (my Lexus RX350 has this option).

If there is it would be mentioned in your Owner's Manual. The only sensitivity settings I'm aware of are for the Collision Alert.

I think you can turn them off but they come back on every time you restart the car.

Hi,
Purchased a 2016 Ford Explorer in the end of February. Vetted the same against its contemporaries like Pilot and Highlander and fell in love with the majestic feel of the explorer. SUV drives fine. We love all the features Ford provides (including the Sync).
However, the love for Explorer is starting to weather out. After a week of purchasing I first saw the "Park Aid error" in the morning. It happens intermittently either while starting or on the freeway. I keep my SUV very clean and wash it regularly. I even tried washing the sensors to see if it will disappear. Dealership has been nice enough to replace it under warranty. This has not been happening just once. It has happened 3 times so far. The dealership takes possession of the SUV for a few days and all the time a faulty/shorted parking sensor is replaced in the front. I fail to understand how 3 parking sensors die one after another in a span of 2 months. I implored the dealer to do a full system replacement or replace all 8 sensors but was told that Ford will not agree to do it and they will have to replace it one at a time (it is still at dealership). I do see that other users like xerais experienced a very similar situation.
As a first time Ford buyer am seriously concerned about quality control issues at Ford. An average SUV user expects it to last fine with regular maintenance for over 100K (minimum) but this experience is making me nervous. Am very concerned about whether this is symptomatic for a bigger problem that was skipped by Ford while manufacturing the SUV. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues on their brand new SUV? Looking for suggestions on what I can do if it happens again.

so just to verify - you're talking about the forward sonor sensors for the front parking beeps?

does your model also have the forward camera - it's an option in one of the packages?

Finally when they replace a sensor - is it always the same spot or has it been a different sensor location each time?

My first theory - if you have had replacements on multiple locations - but all on the front - then you got a set of weak/low tolerance sensors on your front bumper, and just unlucky at the draw. I would bet you have equal chance of not having issues again.

My second theory - if you are replaceing them on the same location each time - they need to be tracing those wired down or re-looming the harness with the next replacement becasue it's potentially damaged.

Third theory - somethng hit the sensor dead on - rare as hell but if you image getting a rock chip just about anywhere - well if you took one right dead on the sensor it probably won't tollerate it well.

Side note - up on buid the sensors are put into the bumper as an assembly - prior to their setting up on the line. so the sensors on your rear might not be of the same lot number as the ones on the front - which would explain why you have issues on just one bumper.

guesses - sight unseen.

sadly all manufacturers have quality issues from time to time on various components - be thankful your not involved with the takata air bag fault recall. The problem I keep seeing with Ford is the dealers go out of their way to bilk customers for things Ford actually wants to take care of. Gm has a similar issue, I know first hand.

It was water getting in the wiring harness for me. After the entire harness was replaced I haven't had any issues.

Any reputable service dept. would go hmmmm, we probably have a bigger problem here and further investigate the harness and other parts of the system.

Sounds like the OP's service dept is simply reading the codes and saying oh we need to replace that particular sensor rather than looking into the true cause.

Mine did the initial replacements too. It took MONTHS to get it fixed.

Thank you for the updates.
Napalm the beeping sensors are the ones am talking about. My XLT does not have park assist. It has camera and park aid. Dealership has replaced 3 so far (Front Left, Front Right, Front Outer Right in that order). I sincerely hope that your theory of being unlucky at the draw is what it is and the issue does not occur. Like what jmr061 mentioned, what is infuriating is that I wish someone in the dealership/Ford Support did full analysis rather than apply band-aid every time.

xerais your detailed report of the issue was what prompted me to post here. In fact I emailed the thread to the service advisor at the dealership. Asked them to run it through a car wash a few times and test. The update I got was that the technicians do not seem to think that is the case for me which is disappointing.
