Just picked up a 99 EB 5.0 that is in need of a front pinion seal so I can get it on the road. I am thinking it would be a good idea to change the yoke as well as the seal so I can eliminate the possibility of a leak. I am having difficulty finding a company that sells the Yoke and the seal. Does anyone have a recommendation for a place to get both from. I have a D4 (3.73 LSD) front axle.

Thanks in advance, Pic of my $650.00 special

Keithczar, welcome. You would only have to replace the yoke if it is damaged on the seal surface where it could possibly damage the new seal.

I agree.

I am driving things heading toward 40 years old and the yoks are fine. Why do you want new yoke?

MY logic behind getting a new Yoke was to eliminate the possibility of another leak down the road. I just got mine apart, it has a very slight groove in it nothing major.

I found DTS (Drive Train Specialists) in Warren, MI, they knew exactly what I needed for a new yoke. I work near there so was able to go pick up the parts. I had trouble finding the correct yoke online as well. My truck is a 01 Mountaineer 5L with the Dana 35 IFS axle, I would assume the same as yours?

Front yoke Dana Spicer part 2-4-4601-1

strap kit Dana Spicer part 2-70-18X

Seal I got at Advance Auto as part of a differential bearing kit, I replaced all the bearings in my front diff.

Well, I changed the seal and buttoned it up. No leaks but it has a whine from 30mph+ so I'm guessing the diff is shot. Probably going to change the whole thing out and have the old one built up. Thanks for the replies and info...this is the first of many projects on the EX.

You did take care to adjust the preload, didn't you?

Yes sir, I marked it and re tightened where it was marked. I did not get to drive it faster than 15mph when i went to look at it when I bought it so there is a good chance the diff was shot before the seal blew out. I was willing to roll the dice on it since it was so cheap and I knew that even if I had to swap the diff out it would still be a steal. Its super clean and no body rust..has a little underneath but nothing major. It has 130k on it and the Trans fluid was nice and red and motor oil was not burnt at all. It sucks I couldn't fix it for 50 bucks but I'm willing to put a little more work into it to make it perfect.
