I'm looking for both front shocks for a 98 build 4x4 XLT with rear self-levelling suspension. I have found several that state they are not for air suspension. Does it matter what the rear suspension is to replace the front? Do the front shocks have to be a certain type to allow the rear suspension to work? Any recommendations, price is quite important but I don't want cheap rubbish either? Thanks.

I have checked the shocks and can't see any pipes around them so I am pretty confident they are not of the adjustable type. Does anyone have any suggestions on make? Use is mainly road but I want them to perform off road if required.

I have got a quote from a UK supplier and based on that it looks like I do not need adjustable shocks for the front. Is there any easy way to check before I buy the wrong ones? If this is correct it looks like either KYB (GR-2) or Monroe (Monromatic) on price grounds. Anyone used either and got any opinions? I have just changed all the brakes, pads, discs, pipes so I am not exactly flush at the moment.

I don't think it should matter in the front. i would go with the kyb, better quality than monroe. but like i say in every shock question, BILSTEIN!!!

The problem with Bilstein's is the price, I would love them if I can find them cheap enough but they are around 4 times more expensive than KYB.

The bilsteins are pricey, but you will have them for a very long time. much longer than monroe or kyb. you get what you pay for.....

The other problem is finding someone who will ship to the UK. Explorer parts are like golddust in the UK. I found the KYBs and Monroes on eBay, the only Bilsteins on there are for all 4 which means paying extra for the rear ones that I don't need.
