First post - thanks for everyone's input on this forum.

Just replaced both front shocks but didn't notice until I was about to reinstall the second one that there's a notch and arrow on top plate. Wish I noted how it was installed originally. I couldn't find any reference to it on this forum... except for previous generation where it says it needs to point inward. Is that the case for 5th gen as well?

Thank you in advance.
Serge
(I also have a 2014 fusion hybrid that will be changing front struts soon... hopefully they are similar design.)

Welcome to the Forum Serge.
I let my dealer do all the servicing on mine so I don't have the answer. I did a 'Search' in the Forum and only found a thread on replacing the rears. Good luck. Did a further 'Search' on struts and found this thread but no mention of the "arrow". Sport Aftermarket Struts/shocks

Are you referring to the notch on the strut mount? If so, the rounded side with the notch in it goes toward the outside of the vehicle.

I just replaced my upper strut mounts today. Here's a pic.

FYI, one good way to tell the orientation of the part is to stick your head up in the wheel well and look for the outline of dirt from the old part.

Thanks, Peter.

Asundine, appreciate the info. My strut mounts are completely round as you can see in the pic. The notch is very small and can't see it in the pic. Because of that, looking at dirt outline doesn't work.
I believe the "wrong" orientation will make it a 0.5 degree camber.

Is there a Bentley manual (or another vendor) anyone recommends?

Thanks!

Is your Explorer 2WD?

I have a Haynes manual for 11-17. I'll take a look at it in a bit and see if it has anything helpful.
