Greetings all! Here's the deal: 2000 Eddie Bauer Explorer V8 with 106k miles. The vehicle was a hand me down from my old man who bought a brand new one. Long story short, it say for almost a year due to needing a radiator. Swapped that out, engine fired right up, but discovered I need a new water pump (that's another story altogether). My main problem now is my accelerator is frozen in its normal position without a foot on it. The vehicle will move when shifted into either forward or reverse, but there is absolutely no give in the gas pedal whatsoever. I need to get this unstuck so I can limp it to a garage. Any ideas on how to free up the stuck accelerator?

go look at the cable connection at the throttle body (you may have to remove a plastic cover to access it). pop the throttle cable off it's ball and see if the throttle body or the cable is the problem. you may need to lube/replace the cable, or clean/adjust the throttle body plate if it's sticking.

Another possible issue: The bracket on the firewall under the dash that holds the end of the gas pedal may be broken and jammed up. The spot welds that hold the bracket to the firewall can break loose. When it happened to me (on a trip a couple hundred miles from home), it didn't jam up - but once I was rolling I had to use the cruise buttons to accelerate/decelerate all the way home. Good luck.

Thanks for the input! I ended up pulling the air hose off and the cover plate over the throttle body and getting a can of throttle body & air intake cleaner and spraying and cleaning for a few minutes. Took a little (not too much) persuading with a flat head screwdriver on the butterfly valve and she finally popped open. Cleaned everything real good on the valve, throttle body, accelerator cable and checked the routing of the cable for any obstructions, and found none. Pedal now works like a champ!
