Ok so my 94 Explorer limited has the gas gauge stuck on E...been like that since i bought it. So i got a new fuel pump & filter im going to put in it. But now like if im trying to go up a hill or anything it doesnt seem to have the horse power or just kinda freeks out lol. Doesnt die or anything just feels like not getting any fuel to get more speed.

Any clue of what this may be or is it just the fuel pump?

Edit : I Undid the MAF ( mass air flow ) Sensor and it acted worse, and did some more tests... so the MAF is good also looks like it was replaced too.

Also Get a code of 1 5 3 9 5 3 9 using paperclip method

Edit : Turned off ac and got a 1 1 1

See what fuel pressure you have. It should hold at about 38-40 psi. The regulator may be going bad. A clogged fuel filter can cause this condition as well. Change the filter and see if the problem goes away.

Also when was the last time the truck was tuned up? Start with simple things as those are most often the problems.

-edit- a code 539 means you had the defrost or AC switch on while running the key on engine off test, it is not a fault.

Thats a good thing, It means system pass. You should have gotten a contiuous memory code for the MAF when you unplugged it. Did you get anything else out of it?

Actually i did the Key on running test now and got a

538
(R)
System did not receive "goose" test - TESTS

Talking to a mechanic it means most likely fuel filter... agree?

Its a possible cause and simple enough to do. Try also running some fuel system cleaner through it. You may have some gunk in the injectors.

If you just got the truck it most likely just needs a little TLC. I would start with a complete tune-up, change all the fluids and filters, put some fuel system cleaner in it and make sure the tires are pumped up to where they should be, about 32-35 psi. Low tires can actually have a bad effect on performance. Then drive it for a while. A tune up will show results immediatly, but the fuel system cleaner may take a whole tank of fuel or more.

well the tires thing just got situated... i just bought a new fuel pump / filter and i could always run some seafoam or something too.. but filter will be replaced when i do the pump
