I'm also looking for a simple guide to changing the fuel filter. I brought my 96 XLT to the UK (effingpot.com/import) and after 66K miles reckon it's worth changing. My local garage can manage the plugs and oil filter but anything requiring more complex parts seems to baffle them. Are there any step by step guides available? I'll end up picking up the part next time I'm in the US I guess.
thanks
Mike

We tired doing it but my dad just gave up and we had ford install the filter when we were in next time.

I've changed the fuel fiter in my 95 and it was pretty tough. I had to get the special tool with the slot cut in the side. You have to put the tool over the tubing on the filter with the large circular end pointing at the filter and the small tapered end pointing at the fitting. It WILL be tough to get on. Finally after a lot of pushing and a probably a few unmentionable words, it will pop on. Now, slide the tool down to the fitting and push towards the fitting. The sharp tapered end of the tool will slide under the fitting and unsnap it. Again, it's gonna take some pushing. Eventually, it will pop off, then watch yourself cause fuel is gonna pour out on you. Now, you have to do this to the other side. But first you have to get the tool off the tubing you just did, and as it was tough going on, it's tough coming off. When you get it off, do the same thing to the other side. Put the new filter in place and slide the fittings over each end and you're done.

Hope this helps you guys. Don't give up on it, all it takes are a couple of strong hands and a little patience.

Thanks for the ionfo. I was just worried he was going to break the connector and I'd be stuck with a busted fuel line. Anyway now I'll know for next time.

No problem. Happy to have helped.
