Fuel filter location..

Ok.. maybe I'm just an idiot... but I can't seem to locate the
fuel filter on my '02 explorer! I've found the threads on how to remove it... And I even found a thread that said it was on the driveside. but I couldn't find it. Granted I only just crawled under the car and glanced pretty quicky...

Should It be pretty obvious to see? Or is it covered by a shroud or something.

I tried to follow the gas line from the engine but it get obscured and I can't pick it up again underneath..

Yeah.. I saw that one too...

I guess I try to look a little harder...

is it near the drivers seat or the rear seat? I guess I'll look again tonight when I get home.. I bet it will be a D'oh! maybe if I had opened my eyes when I looked the first time.

At least now I know to consentrate on the driver's side..

2002-2005 is on the passenger side. Right in front of the fuel tank is a shield. Remove the shiled and the filter is located there. The fitting going to the engine is the quick connect kind that uses the special tool. The fitting from the fuel tank is a self locking type that needs no tool, justsome figuring. This fitting has a clip that must be unsnapped then pushed off the fuel line. COmplicated wihtout a picture, but take your time.

Plastic shield. I belive it says fuel filter on it. Two 10mm bolts hold the shield on. Again, I must stress be careful on the connector coming from the tank. It is hard to see because you are lying on your back but work on it salowly and it will come off without breaking. It is plastic and if broken I was told you must replace the whole line or retrofit with a rubber connector.

After all the help here.. I did finally find it! once I Got the shield off it was right in front of me.. It was still a pain to change. I disconnected all the hoses and took the mounting backet off with the filter. It was rusted on pretty good and I would have probably broke something trying to pry it off..

I had no issues with fuel line pressure.. I removed the fuse as was described in some other threads and It would start at all.. Thats probably because I let the truck sit over night before I worked on it.. Some gas spilled.. but it didn't really gush out.

The fittings can be really tricky as was said.. be careful with all of them. I would buy the tool to take off the line going to the engine. I'm not sure how I would have done it without it!
