Folks, i've been looking thru some of these threads and also just picked up a Haynes manual for my 2004 Explorer XLS and i'm getting some different feedback. I want to replace my fuel filter and my Haynes manual says its in front of the fuel tank surrounded by a heat-shield and i'm also getting that its actually on top of the fuel sending unit. My Exlorer is the V-6 XLS, 2004 model, can anyone enlighten me as to where this may be?
Thanks

If you look just above this thread is the sticky for fuel filter replacement. I do believe that it's located underneath the passenger front floorboard. It's behind a heat shield by the cat. Read that sticky to make sure you do some things correct.

I was actually planning on looking this weekend but i need to get it up on some ramps and the more i read here the more i kept telling myself its in the gas tank with the fuel sending unit but thanks for this and i'll see how easy it is to replace this weekend.
Thank you
Rockey

I'm sure that there is a screen on the fuel sending unit that is used to keep major debris from clogging the fuel line but the fuel filter itself is not located in the tank. Should be where I mentioned. Good luck and let us know what you find out.
