I want to change my fuel filter on my 2000 4.0 ohv. I have tried two different release tools, a plastic and a metal one, neighter one is working. What am i doing wrong? I am able to insert it in to the fitting and move it some. Seems like it needs to move about 1/16" more to release.

Use some PB Blaster...

On the fittings then rotate the filter beforetrying to remove the fittings next time...You will be able to release the fittings with one hand after that...Oh and I recommend using the metal tool...

press the tool into the line, and move the line onto the tool.

also blowing out the fitting or wd40 or any other water base solvent to loosen up the grime in it also helps.

........and move the line onto the tool.
Not sure of this statement. Do you mean that one applies the tool on the line/caps & moves forward as to knock out the plastic fittings ?

Ok thanks; Will try some wd-40 to clean fitting

Got it!

Using a new high quality metal disconect tool some P-B Blaster and compressed air.Worked the fitting in and out while blowing. The spring relaesed but still had to pry apart the filter from the fittings.

I just came in from losing round one with my filter...I am starting to get a little movement, but I believe I am still a ways from getting it released.

It's all experience. I fought with mine for at least half an hour and got nowhere. A guy came in who is a real mechanic, took the same metal tool I was using, and had it off in 30 seconds!:notworthy.

Well, I put a couple more hours effort into getting that old filter off, and even had a surprise visit from a real mechanic. The front line came off easier, but on the rear line it turns out it the stainless steel clip was rusted to the old filter. My mechanic friend told me not to worry, just keep pulling the clip will come out with it and can be replaced. Sure enough the clip came out too, and I managed to get it off, and then loaded it onto the new filter. I am so glad I finally got that job done. BTW, I back-drained the old filter and all kinds of nasty stuff came out. Thanks everyone for the help.

Vid in the link in my signature. Your probably pulling on the line so it cant release. Or its rusted/corroded on.
