Fuel Injector Cleaners???????

Just to clarify:

Is power foam the same as the chrysler combustion cleaner?

I used about half a can of AMSOIL Power Foam on my TB and upper intake manifold; it said to use it all, but I used half and that seemed to do the trick very well.

I don't know about the chrysler combustion cleaner or any of that Mopar stuff, it is probably similar. The application appears to be the same.
 






Do you just start the car and then walk around and spray or does someone need to be in the car applying throttle?
 






By the description of the Chrysler product, the Power Foam is probably the same. Ford also has a Motorcraft product in a green can that is the same as the Power Foam except for the price. They typically want about $120 to clean the upper air intake system. A can of Power Foam is about $5.

Triton46, you'll need someway to keep the RPM's up a little while you spray it into the TB. The easiest way is to have some operate the pedal inside while you spray.
 






Just wondering how you guys spray this stuff in with the engine running? Airflow sensor hole?
 






You have to disconnect the air tube that leads from the filter housing to the throttle body. Then have someone at the wheel, controlling the gas pedal. Then with the engine idling, spray the stuff directly into the TB. I held open the metal flap to really spray inside the upper intake manifold, since even when it's revving up my TB flap doesn't open all that much.

Should the TB flap open a lot more on a 4.0 OHV?

Anyway the helper can rev the engine some, it helps to do that, otherwise it might stall out from the spraying. That's ok if it stalls, retstart the engine and continue. Also, your "Check Engine" light may come on during application, and this is fine, it's just spray and carbon blowing by the O2s and EGR (if you have EGR (93 and later)). The carbon will blow out. After spraying, shut down the truck and let it sit for 5 to 10 mins. Then start it up and drive it pretty well; I mean take it out on the highway, for example, and get on it pretty well.

When I did it, I remember I noticed an immediate improvement in throttle response and power. I got to the I-55 ramp, and gunned it, and went from about 20 mph to 95 mph in short order. My truck had never gone 95 mph before. I was surprised when I looked down at the speedometer because it got up there so easily. Before, the engine didn't like it above 85 mph. Now it doesn't strain at all at 95. I had to slow it down, I didn't realize I was going so fast, because it felt so effortless compared to before.
 






I didn't know it was possible to start the vehicle or even keep it running,with the intake tube disconnected, since the MAS will be sending the wrong readings to the ECU.
 






It runs without the air tube. True the MAF sensor won't send a proper reading in this manner, but for the short time it takes to spray clean a TB and upper intake it will work.
 






I just did mine today. The Check Engine light did stay on as the air tube was off. I sprayed the entire can into the throttle body while increasing the revs from the engine. It took a while to spray the whole can, but as I finished a dark cloud started emitting from the Explorer. As I got to the end the engine was shaking and I have to say I was a little afraid that I may have sprayed in the wrong hole.

I shut the car off and waited 30 min. I then reattached the air tube and started the car, it shook a little and more dark smoke came out. The Check Engine was no longer on and I took the car for a 5 mile joy ride. After leaving my neighborhood I did not notice any more black smoke. The car's pickup was the same if not better. I can't say that I noticed any major power changes, as the car has been running great since I have performed some work on it. We will see in the upcoming weeks if the fuel economy improves. Right now I get 19 to 20 mpg.
 






Might be a good idea to clean the exterior of the O2 sensor after this is done, or just disconnect them altogether.
