FWIW. Filled up the Ex in Prescott Valley, drove to Ashfork, about 55 miles with mostly a quartering tailwind, A/C on about 1/2 the way. Back to Dewey with a quartering headwind, A/C on all the way, including about 4 miles of dirt road. Filled up in Prescott Valley this morning. 22.45 MPG. Ran 65-68MPH whenever possible. 126.3 odometer miles, about 2%slow compared to GPS. 5.62 gallons. I wish it did not have all the electronics, but with that kind of mileage, I aint *****ing. 96 4.0 OHV, auto, Control Trak, 3.73 gears, 235/75/15 all weather tires, 152205 miles.

That's really good FE. I used to get between 23-25 mpg on the freeway with my 2000 Sport, OHV 5-speed 2WD. Probably around 20 mpg with my "new" 98 4-door, OHV 5-speed 4x4.

My V8 AWD gets some 20 mpg in same conditions. Unfortunatelly I cannot drive with 65mph. At 75-78mph I loose some 1.5-2mpg. It is also depending of outside temperature - A/C load.

Dewey (AZ) is pretty high; I believe Ash Fork to be even higher. Real good fuel economy achieved in those mountains is usually difficult to secure. Comparing such results to sea-level, or nearly so, ain't too Kosher, but still, those EFI computers do a masterfult job, overall, dont'cha think?

Well, more than half AZ is on a plateau. High altitude ( 7000ft ) but flat.
And when I used to live there, 85-90mph was the "norm" for most cars (speed limit on highway out of town 75mph). Driving with 65 mph was out of question.
