Hey Gang

Where is the test point to test the fuel pressure. I have a fuel pressure guauge and want to check it. Also what should it be? Is the test point before the regulator or after the regulator?

Thanks in advance

The test port is on top, pretty much in the middle of the engine. Its on the fuel rail, downstream of the fuel pressure regulator (FPR). Look forward of the coil pack and aft of the FPR and you will see a small black plastic cap on the fuel rail. Unscrew this cap and you will find a schraeder valve, just like on your tires. Screw the pressure gauge onto the schraeder valve. You may need an adapter which is usually provided with the gauge.

Fuel pressure on the 1st generation Ex should be a steady 30-35 psi, rising slightly to 35-40 psi if the vacuum line is disconnected from the FPR or the engine is revved.

If it reads very high 80-90 psi, and erratic, then the FPR is bad. This will usually cause a check engine light (CEL), but the actual code does not say FPR, but something like "mixture too rich".

Very low pressure could be the result of a clogged filter, bad FPR, or the fuel pump. Connect the gauge before turning on your engine. You wouldn't want gas to shoot out while it's under pressure.
