Hi everyone i have a 1999 explorer v6 ohv im have a check engine light the obd code reads 0171 0174 "too lean" i checked for a vacuum leak changed the pcv valve egr valve fuel filter now i checked the fuel pressure at the rail and it just goes up to about 60 psi then quickly drops to about 10psi (i will upload the video ) i just wanted someone that may have had this problem to look at it and let me know if its a bad fuel pump that is causing the check engine light to come on every 300 miles.

This is when i turn the key to the on position

Running fuel pressure looks normal...

Operating fuel pressure on a 1999 Explorer is 65-72 psi...The pressure drop is a concern in that the check valve in the top of the pump does not seem to be working...That lack of fuel volume could be a problem on restart especially warm/hot restart...

But the lean codes you are getting are probably being caused by the 3 special rubber seals between the upper and lower intake...Age, heat, and usage tend to make them brittle and they don't seal as well...And while you are changing the intake seals you might want to change the valve cover gaskets as well since you have to remove the upper intake to replace the valve covers anyway and while you have the upper intake off...

Thank you ranger7ltr i will work on it this weekend
