I have been having some hard starting problems with my Explorer lately. I did some checking and found that when shut down the fuel pressure fell off quickly. I plugged off the return to check the pressure regulator but the pressure fell off just as quick. It doesn't seem to be a leaking injector either. does anyone have any other ideas where the fuel pressure could be leaking off so fast to. Also there is no exturnal leaks.

Thanks

A couple of checks -
1. Does your exhaust smell like rotten eggs or is it discolored? It may be your fuel pressure regulator.
2. Check the vacuum hose leading from your fuel P.R to your intake manifol to make sure there are no cracks. I recently had to replace the hose since the heat under the hood eventually wore out the crummy little hose.

3. I am not sure if this would have anything to do with it, but make sure your gas cap is on properly or not broken.

I believe there is a check valve in the fuel pump. If that goes bad, the gas in the line drains back into the tank. I then takes the pump longer to pressurize the line and get the gas to the engine. To test if this may be the case, do not turn the key to the start position right away. Turn to on and wait 5 seconds (you should hear the fuel pump running during this time) then continue to start. If the truck starts right up, you've found your problem.
