My 91 Exp has a strange symptoms, I think the problem is the fuel pump relay, but I'm not sure, I have made a search of message related to this ... but I want to be sure...

In normal case, when I put the key on, the sound from the fuel pump is between 4 or 5 seconds, after this the sound from the fuel pump stop. WHen I turn the key back (or down) to just turn on the radio the fuel pump doesn´t make any sound.

Now, the problem... when I put the key on, the fuel pump sound never stop. Another symptom, when I stay with the key off, and want to turn on the radio by turning the key down (or back), the fuel pump sound begin and never stop until I turn the key off again.

Is it the fuel pump relay ? or what else ? , I have checked the button from the inertia control and it is ok.

Thx a lot for your replies!!
:)

It could be a bad relay, but there might also be a bad electrical connection elsewhere grounding the relay when it isn't supposed to be on, or some other short to power causing the fuel pump to run constantly.

uhm, I have the wiring diagram from the chilton manual, I have checked the electrical connector on the rear driver side but it is ok. I'll check the wiring on the fuel pump relay ... thanks MrShorty!!

You might have a fuel pressure problem...the system is trying to keep pressurising...does the X run fine?

Excuse me for the delay ...
well, I check the Chilton wiring diagram and found a bad connection made by the new installed A/C system, specifically on the relays near to the power distribution...but I'm not sure what they are ... what are exactly the EEC relay, the Fuel Pump relay ? I found the wrong connection on the relay near to the blower motor, is it the fuel pump relay ?, I'm sure which of them is the starter relay ... but the fuel pump and the EEC relay ? ... another problem is that I can't find the color of wires as the Chilton manual says.

Does the X run fine ? not exactly, since it had a roughly idle, the motor sounded RUM rum RUM rum and some times it shut off, but I have replaced the IAC and a this time ...I don't have the problem... but it is not enough time.
