What is the meaning of the wheelbase size in the selection of a fuel pump assembly and in some cases a fuel pump itself? Is that about wire length or the dimensions of the assembly?

I have a flex fuel ranger with a regular cab configuration (wheelbase 112") that was diagnosed as having a weak fuel pump. I am trying to figure out if the wheelbase is relevant with regard to my truck.

The wheelbase is indeed relevant in regards to the complete
pump assembly itself. I suspect it has to do with the length
of the fuel line, vapor, and/or electrical connectors on the
assembly (short vs long frame). There could also be a
difference in the pick-up filter, tank depth, etc. I do know
there are two different part numbers for the long vs short
beds.

Tank shape is different, the pick-up screen and the actual depth might be different.
