1991 Ford Explorer Sport
Hey everyone,

I am Pavlos and new to this forum. I have not been able to get any help. I hope there is someone out that that can assist.

I have a 1991 Ford Explorer Sport.
When it is on the highway it runs strong.
However, when I sit in traffic and idle for any period of time it stalls and there is a strong gas odor. It takes time to crank it back up and then has a lot of trouble excellerating. It's like you push the gas pedal and it just won't go.

Is there anyone out there that can help?

Do you have a Check Engine Light on? If so, read the fault codes and post them here. This forum already has info on how to do it.

Check Engine Light

Hey. Thanks for your reply. Where do I hook the computer up to check the engine codes? Is something I can buy and do myself or do I need to take it somewhere?

Fuel Regulator

Flooding engine... read up on the fuel regulator.

Hey.
Thanks for your reply.
What is the function of the fuel regulator?
Where is it located?
How can I tell if it is bad?

You might start your search in the stickies of the Under the Hood forum. There are threads there describing how to perform a fuel pressure test and how to pull codes without a code reader.
