Fuel Temperature Sensor

Hey Everyone~

Back again So I had the Service Engine Soon light come on in my 2005 EB Explorer. I took it to Auto Zone today for a free diagnosis & the reports said that it is a faulty Fuel Temperature Sensor. I've never heard of that before, is it something easy to fix? Does it cost a lot? I don't mind doing work myself, but I'm in the Northeast so it will have to wait until spring because I'm not doing it in the cold lol. But if it's something that really needs to be done I'll have to take it to a mechanic.

IF the '05 is 4.0L AND it's the same (have no reason to think otherwise), the item in question is the Fuel Pressure and Temperature Sensor. Replacement requires removal of the upper intake manifold. Not a particularly difficult job. My '04 went bad, as evidenced by the code placed. It would help if you could state the code. My main concern was, that sensor determines a very important function: control of fuel pump output, determining fuel pressure. If it fails to do that job (temperature is less critical than pressure), the computer (PCM) directs the pump to run full-bore all the time. This wastes fuel and affects emissions, hence the Check Engine Light (CEL). If my surmising is right, I personally would not wait to replace it very long. At least get the code found, and post it here for us. imp

@imp thanks for getting back. I'm not exactly sure on what the code is. It has a # P0183 on the slip, that is the only thing I can see that would resemble a code. Could that be it?

Yep! Only fly in the soup is, I don't know for certain that for 2005 Ford did not use a separate Temperature Sensor instead of combined Pressure and Temperature, as my '04 has. So, any one who knows for sure, help! imp

Since you have one code. i do believe it is one part. its a fuel pressure temperature sensor . But not to say you need the part it could be a bad connection or corroded plug, or wire.

The part is not cheap. First one from NAPA was over $50 as I recall; part went bad in a few months. Second one from O'Reilly has about 40K on it now. I had only one code, forget which, but it definitely implicated the F.P. & T. Sensor. imp

@07gtman @imp thanks for your help guys! I had been on vacation or else I would have written back sooner. Turns out it was the fuel pump. They replaced that & the sensors & everything seems to be good for now. I appreciate your help!
