Funny idle, jumps every 3 seconds.....where to start

My Navajo will idle at 1k slowly dropping to about 200 then will pop back up to 1k every three seconds. Also the electrical guage will jump along with this. The fan is kicking on at the same time.

MAF was replaced recently and the air does not blow cold. This could just need to be charged, if anyone could help with this problem let me know. I will take it in to be looked at but would rather avoid a larger repair bill if I can do it myself....where do I start?

Mine was doing the same thing.
I replaced the Throttle Bypass Valve, flushed and filled my cooling system and cleaned a crapload of sensors and the problem went away.

You should first make sure the AC compressor doing this. Unplug the small single wire connector that goes to the electric clutch on the compressor. It makes me think this is a compressor problem when you say, "does not blow cold. This could just need to be charged."

You're right Operahouse it is the compressor clutch kicking on and off. it runs fine when disconnected. What next? does this mean compressor could be bad? what sensors could I possibly fix?

I had this exact same problem on my 93. I solved it by trading it in on a 98.

I like your meathod of thinking!

I would have the freon checked in it. If it is still R12, I'd probably leave it unplugged, or conver it to 134a and put some dye in the system to check for leaks.

You are low on freon . Your low pressure switch is telling the compressor to cut in to build up pressure in the ac system . That's why it is cycling so often and you are not getting cold air . My F150 is doing the same thing right now .
It's not a problem for you guy's in the States to convert to 134a but here in Canada we can't buy 134a without an AC license .
We do have other options like Dura Cool or Red Tec for freon its a propane based refrigerant .
With these products you don't have to covert anything just add it to your system .

If you are looking for cheap freon maybe look for Glacier Gold , My supplier gets it out of Montana , and looks after all the customs crap to get it over the border .

It also can be installed without changing anything.

And does not require a license.
