Hi, got a 1997 Explorer factory JBL system working for 3 years till few days ago. Checked all fuses and only #29 keep blowing. It will blow the fuse even with key off and radio off. It had a 10 amp fuse in it. Any help/ advice is deeply appreciated!
According to wiring diagram, the fuse #29 circuit uses light green/purple wire and feeds power to the radio/front control unit for the sound system, the CD changer and the Rear Integrated Control Panel (RCIP). Looks like you should have two wires out of the back of the interior fuse panel - one to the radio/front control unit and the other to the CD changer and RICP in the console. Have you had/done any work either behind the dash or in the center console?? If not, try unplugging the front control unit first - if fuse no longer blows then something in that unit is bad. If fuse still blows, do the same with the CD changer and the RICP in turn. If fuse still blows with all three unplugged, you will have to do some wire tracing to find the short/ground in the wiring - always a PITA job. Good luck.
Thank you very much for the excellent solution. It was the head unit. Looking for one and they are expensive, think going the aftermarket new unit since it almost the same price as a used OEM.
