I'm getting ready to change out the fuel filter. I've seen recommendations to remove the fuse for the fuel filter then run the engine dry to relieve fuel pressure prior to removing the filter. Where is the fuse located? Is it with the rest of the fuses or somewhere else? Does it have a fuse number?

No one knows or am I boring you with the question? LOL....;)

There is a web site if I remember is fleet.ford.com that has a free download. A google search for 2002 explorer owners manual should pop it up. I recently purchased an 02 and haven't printed out that section yet. Have you found the filter yet? Last time that question was posted there were no answers. Believe it to be under an aluminum shield under the passenger seat.

There is no fuse but there is a relay located under the hood (driver's side) in the black power distribution box by the coolant reservoir. It is relay #49 (underneath cover of power box shows number location of fuses and relays). Pull the relay and then start engine it will run for a little while then shut off. Crank it a few more times to be sure the pressure is relieved and then you should be ready to replace the filter.

Thanks to all for responding...got it done!

I pulled relay 49 after searching for info but my 02 wont crank over with this removed. Sucks, im wanting to replace the filter right now
