If my amp is recommending 4g, as well as an 80 amp fuse, is an 80 amp fuse okay to use if I use 2g?

It is fine

Are you going with 2 gauge for a reason?

yeah my amp accepts up to 2 gauge and I figured why not, I got it cheap 45$ shipped for 20 ft. with fuse and all. It's a nice RF kit.

If it's not that more and your getting double the thickness of wire I would say go for it. You will have a lot cleaner sound because you will be able to handle more power. Also if you wanted to upgrade the subs and amp later. You wouldn't have to buy a new thicker install kit, unless it's comp. grade like 10k watts.

Power wire fuse doesnt have anything to do with amps, it has to be a little smaller than the capacity of the wire, that way the fuse i'll blow before the wire catch on fire.

Why not use a breaker instead of a fuse?

< $5 for this 90 amp one.. (usually $30+ if you buy it locally)

They also have 120 and 150 amp breakers.

I would run the 120-150 breaker under the hood and place the 80 amp fuse close to the amp.

What brand/model amp is it? Kicker ZX750? What is its RMS?

A 1000 watt amp should draw 66 amps according to OHMS law.

fuse size for the power wire has nothing to do with the amp...it is to protect the wire.

Also 2 gauge is not double the size of 4 gauge. And the size of wire doesn't really affect the clarity of the sound either.

those work wonders... but they once they go off you need a new one.. there not supposed to but all of mine need to be replaced.

I never had that problem. I have run into them being weak. What I found is since they are thermal, and its hot in AZ a 90 amp breaker actually kicks at 80A or so when its installed under the hood.

I use bigger wire than I need and go up one size on the breaker so it trips where I need it to even when its 110F outside (much hotter under the hood).

yeah I have the 08zx750.1 It is benched at 928 rms on the birthsheet. It's looking like I'll be fine with the 80, and if it breaks... well then I'll know to step up to 100 I guess.

Forget about your amp, focus on your WIRE, amp has his fuses from factory no need to add another for it.
