Gas gauge update slow

Generally, nothing really fails. It's a re-flash of the computer that takes care of it. Rarely, if ever, have I seen defective senders on these vehicles, or any Ford product for that matter.
I do recommend always running a high-quality fuel such as Chevron, Shell, etc. but I wouldn't expect it to solve anything regarding this problem.

This may be a tangent to the topic and, if you are filling up with the keys in, engine running, door open, it may not be.

ALl should be aware that a large number of what are booked as 'car jackings' occur at gas stations. The perps wait until you remove the nozzle after filling up and drive off. They watch for people who do not take the keys with them when they go to pump gas. All the more easy since the filler door is opposite the driver's side door.

Just my 2 cents.

I fill up on military bases and I still pull and take the keys with me. Cheap insurance.

It costs about $60 to fill up, run it twice... There's no harm done, and if you have to pay for replacement parts that might not need replacing, what's the harm in running gas first? I'd run Chevron first, and then if it persists, Ford. It's only a gas gage, not the CEL (check engine light).

Try Techron for a rough Idle!

Lol.

Seriously I detest Chevron, Try using Inland if you guys got it. Their gas is good quality and cheap. No joke, Ran the stuff in my Taurus and it reacted better than when I filled up at Conoco. My Sport Trac.. no difference was noted other than more cash in my wallet. :D (the dealership down here uses BP) (BP is good too.)

What is Inland? A station?

I'm saying, you know, we all have to buy gas... BP we had in No CA, but they split, sold to 76 I believe. BP is a really good brand!

Gas, schmass! Fill 'er up with good ol' corn squeezins! :D

BTW, I've never heard of Inland either. Here, the most popular stations we have BP, Shell, Mobil, Citgo, and Kwik Trip. We used to have Unocal 76 stations, and I really liked their fuels, but they all pulled out and changed to either a BP or Citgo.

Here's where I get my fuel: www.renewe85.com

I've always used Chevron Fuel System Treatment, works awesome as a maintenance item. I normally buy BP good gas and good people... Shell if I can't hit BP, but refuse to use Citgo anymore on American Principal.

Venezuela??

hahaa! Hugo Chavez got on your nerves too?

Tesoro has moved in on AmPm... right on El Camino and Watt there was a Tesoro, don't know if it's still there but they were always busy.

Yeah, they are owned by the Southwest Georgia Oil Company.

im with MIKE on this deal !....i haul gas for a living and and all gas is the same ! i haul it by the tracter trailer load , some retailairs such as shell and amoco shoot additive in at the terminal rack where we load the truck ...and gas is gas ! .....that additive is snake oil !.....its all gotta meet a natoinal standard ,
here in omaha , ne the the gas comes out of three racks

magellan pipeline
bp amoco
national coop refinery assc

It's aaalllll good! But if everyone in this thread ran C/wTechron before spending money at the dealer, it's worth a shot. We have to buy gas, so no bigg deal... run the detergents first, and if you haven't resolved the issue, spend $$$$ at the dealer later. I have to say that it works for me, so gas may all be the same, but the additives or whatever Techron is, is recommended by Ford. There must be a reason for this.

What brand of gas do you use in your vehicle?

Musta been a fluke!

Well i don't know maybe it was just a fluke... :)

but when I switched to Inland (SeGAOCo) Over Conoco I got better mileage and better throttle response out of my Taurus. The Explorer didn't have any difference.

Probably a fluke.

Since I ran a Fuel Injector cleaner i've been using STP Fuel Treatment on my 84K Vulcan and I have noticed better mileage. 275 Miles to 1/4 of a tank on a 13.5 Gallon tank (IIRC:confused:) rather than the 155 to 1/4 I got before (on either conoco or inland). :D

any feedback from the poster?

Any news?

i just had that problem last week. got a new fuel pump and sender under warranty and its back to normal.

zero dollars paid out to dealer?

O wow I thougt just 1st gen. expos had fuel gauge problems,, but I guess its just the sending unit (brain)???!,, I don think Ford makes good fuel system parts....

this is my only vehicle that ever had this problem...

It can be the tanks, too. Crap in the tanks, trouble on the road.

JP

can't say I've ever had that problem, but I hate the fact that I can get 150 miles on *1/4* of a tank, but only 150 miles on the next *3/4* of a tank

I've also had this problem pretty regularly with my 02 xls.
The craziest time it happened, I left the ignition in accessory mode as my wife and son were in the truck, when I started to fill the tank it was 1/4 full, topped it up to the rim, got in the truck, and the gauge was at empty , with the "check gauge" light on.
Took 15 minutes of driving for the damn thing to come back up off of empty.
I originally thought it was an issue with it being cold.
But as odd as it is, I think there may actually be something to this key in/door open business.

Ben.

Your supposed to turn the key off so the gauge resets itself. The check gauge light will always be one when the motor isn't running because there is no oil pressure.
