Hello all, have a 03 XLT 4X4 and I filled her up this morning and went on mm way, about 30 miles later my gauge light comes on and the gas gauge reads
empty. Pulled over to another gas station think that I may have a hole in my tank? So I started filling her up again and she would only hold 2 Gallons!
Shut the X off and started her back up and the gauge read full, about 15 minutes later gauge light comes on and the gas gauge reads empty!
Any clues before I take her back to the dealer?
Also tried resetting the fuel system with the reset switch.

Bad guage float thingy? I dont remember how the guages work, whether its a pressure sender of some sort, a float etc. but I'd assume whatever it uses is disfunctional.

Could be the sending unit in your tank. They do go bad. It's probably not the float, cause those usually read way full or way empty. The gauge itself could be a problem, but more than likely it's the sending unit.

Try and run as much gas out before you take it in, they'll probably drain it. And you don't want that to happen with prices the way they are!!

Get a haynes manual or do a search here on the procedure to test the sending unit without dropping the tank. ON my 93 it involves un-doing the electrical connection at the tank and putting and using a multimeter to get the voltages of two pins...if it fall out of the acceptable range for a full or empty tank the sending unit is bad. My haynes manual doesn't cover 03's though so I can't be more sprcific. I have the exact same problem you'r having.

Good luck
