im trying to get better gm on my ranger and im only getting 13mpg how can i get better? i love the truck but i heard of people getting 23mpg!!! someone help!

13 is horrible. You need to tune it up, spark plugs, air filter are a good start. Check for codes and fix any. Check tire pressure, I run 38 in my ranger and 40 in my explorer for reference. Then check ecomodder.com for mods and tips in driving style

That is about what I would get when towing my race car at around 72 mph with my 89 2.9L STX with a manual transmission. It would get around 15 mpg around town with the way I drove it (not light footed). I usually got around 18 to 19 mpg highway mileage if I didn't have head winds or much climbing. My wife got a little over 20 mpg highway mileage with it once but I could never get that much with it.

I think you would have to drive under 60 and be very light footed to get 23 mpg. That is extremely high for a 4WD 2.9 L Ranger but very doable for a 2WD Ranger, especially a standard cab with stock size tires.

Like said above tune up and reg. maintenance will take you a long ways.
my 88 ranger 2.9 5 speed 4.10 gears and 32's get me way up in the mid 20's on the highway
