Whenever I fill the tank up (and I don't top off) you get this nice gas smell for a few days whenever you are near the vehicle. Not looked at it real close yet but wondered if there were any *known* gas tank or filler neck issues I need to be aware of.

Thanks,
Steve

I believe there was a a problem with a leak on the 1st gens tank or related to. I read it some where. I have a 92 and I too can smell some gas for a while after fill up. If I fill mine up to the auto shut off, about a pint of gas will leak out. Its not enough for me to tear down everything to find the leak. Fact is I haven't even bothered to see where its comming from. Maybe when it gets warmer I will take a look.

A few ideas:
On my '92, I have tried and not yet succeded in getting the filler tube at the "gas cap assembly" to seal. I tighten the hose clamp and it still leaks ever so slightly. Pretty easy to check, stick your head in the wheel well and see if the edge of the hose looks wet. If so, does it smell like gas?
It seems to be somewhat common for the gas lines coming out of the top of the tank to rust through and leak. Almost have to drop the tank to check this, and this leak will be there irregardless of fuel level.
When the evaporative emissions system gets plugged or the cannister purge solenoid doesn't open, gas vapors find their way out and can be smelled. It is possible for more gas to get into the evaporative emissions system when the tank is full. Easy enough to check with a vacuum pump/gauge.
