Gas smell

I have a 91 XLT and when I first start it there is a strong gas smell for about the first 5 to 15 minutes. It seems to do it more when it is cold outside. Does any body have an idea on what it could be. My gas mileage also seems very low. I'm getting about 140 mile to a tank. However that clould be because I live in Monterey and it is hilly. Not to mention I drive up a pretty steep hill to go home every day.

I would be willing to bet that it is the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, the easiest way to test it is too have a shop do a fuel pressure test, tell them that is all you want, nothing else for the time being, I forget what it is supposed to be but they should tell you, if you get it checked and they don't tell you the stock pressure then let me know what your comes out to be and I can check the computer at work and let you know what it should be!! Mine did the same thing I checked it after a coworker suggested it and my pressure was more than triple what it was supposed to be.
