hi all,
i have what i believe to be a fuel pump issue (according to the setaleship).
went to the stealership for a diagnosis. the results
were not good.

i am not a mechanic, but i will attempt all of the repairs (in my driveway).
what could i possible screw up? (i know quite a bit, but i am comfortable
doing most of the work).

the thing i am not too sure about is dropping the gas tank for the fuel pump and the pcm recalibration. i havent found any details in the forum for the dropping of the tank. i am also suspect of the evaluation since the truck runs great once started (just a little bit of trouble to start).

here is what $135 will get your from a ford stealership:
fuel pump/mass air flow/ recalibration of pcm - $1200
rear springs - $900
right rear tie rod??? - $300
fr lower ball joints - $422
4 wheel alignment - $180
front pinion seal and yoke - $307
transfer case vent tube - $111
transfer case service - $45 (what a bargain)
front sway bar bushings - $140
rad flush - $115
rear brakes and bearings - $1331

wow, the book on this truck isnt as much!!!!
any help with the gas tank issued would be greatly appreciated.

I got a cheap fuel pressure gauge ($10) and checked it myself. Mine pumped ok, but would sometimes stop and also overheat the relay. It's right by the battery, under the cover. Look up the location in the manual. After driving a while stop and feel that relay. If it's really hot then the pump is your problem. The labor in Dayton to get mine replaced was only about $100 and the pump was $150 (not at the dealer).

Also, man, my rear springs replaced out the door were only $280...

why are they saying you need to replace the fuel pump?

I'd get a second opinion. And not from another dealer.
