Gasket sealant, or no sealant?

Would someone please list for me which parts need sealant and which ones don't.

Intake manifold, exhaust manifold, cylinder heads, etc. and if you wouldn't mind, a little tutorial on what sealant is used on each of these and how it is applied.

I've always put goo on everything but I'm thinking that on these newer engines stuff has changed. I'm one of those knuckle draggers that has never worked on anything with a fuel injector until this Ex.

None of them need sealant. They only need gaskets. About the only place I can think of that requires sealant would be in the engine front cover/valve covers transition area. Both the engine front cover and valve covers have their own rubber gaskets but you should use a little RTV in the transition area where the valve covers overlap the front engine cover at the top. Same goes for the bottom of the front engine cover where the oil pan butts up to. This is on a 4.6 V8 by the way. Probably similar in many ways on the 4.0 V6 too.

RTV locations

There are six places between the block cradle and the block where RTV should be applied: two are at the junction of the block and the rear main cap, two are at the junction of the timing cover seal enclosure and two are the junction of the timing cover and the block.
