gear oil quanity

how much gear oil do the 91 3.73:1 take? I have searched this forum only to find debates about the type... I have tried looking in the manual with no luck... how much gear oil does ford say this truck take? is it 2.75 quarts?

so i've heard but i want to know factory spec as i don't want to go out and buy another bottle for just being a few ml off.... i was looking at this thread roadrunner777 http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=336162&highlight=gear+oil did when he rebuilt his and he required 3 quarts on an automatic give or take a few ml

2.75 quarts (5.5 pints) is correct. Loosen the fill plug BEFORE draining.

thanks... that means im good to go... i used 3 quarts give or take because a bit of fluid was left over once i was done.

As with any fluid, check with the truck level. Also make sure the axle vent hose is clear, critters have been known to blow axle seals.

truck is leveled i filled while it was on the ground and hose is clear... thanks again
