gear ratios

What is involved in changing the gears to a "better" ratio for mileage ?
I dont know what ratio I have now but I must be able to change them. (stock 1996 4.0L auto XL). What kind of cost is involved ?

Hey Tom,

If you do a search on this site for Gears, you'll find a ton of posts on the subject. As far as cost goes, it can get expensive. If you have it done for you, I understand it cost over $1000.00 (4 wheel drive). But do the search and you will learn more then you ever wanted to know about gears.
