anyone out there attempted a ring and pinion swap on an 07-08 v8 2wdr
sport trac?- ive got an 08 adrenaline with 4.30s on the way and was wondering if anyones done this yet-
thanks man- im not doing it- i work for a ford dealer- after theyre in and i reprogram for the new rear ill take it on a few runs and report back- im hoping this will wake the beast up a little- roadpig
well- the 4.30s are in- while we were there- we converted the rear to a limited slip by swapping out the carrier with a limited slip version using a part # for an 04 explorer- also reprogrammed for the new gears with a hypertech speedometer calibrator- first impressions- the truck no longer feels like its towing something while accelerating- better throttle response- much less lag for the motor to pick up steam- revs are about 2000rpm in sixth @ approx 65mph- thats one benefit of short gears with a six speed- will have to keep an eye on fuel mileage- you~d think it would suffer with a swap like this but im not so sure- motor lugs much less in normal driving- ill report back- overall- great mod- not too pricey and well worth it so far- roadpig
I would like to know a lot more about this. What is the gearset from? The 3.55 is just too tall for the amount of OD the trans has. If this was under $1500.00, I would do in in an instant.
the limited slip carrier has no effect at all on the abs/traction control- the speed sensors are at the wheels- not in the diff- as far as cost- expect to pay about 180.00 for the calibrator- 200.00 for the ring and pinion- about 250.00 for the limited slip carrier- 200.00 approx for bearings and seals, diff fluid/supplies- and about 500.00 in labor- all told about 1300-1400 dollars- the ring and pinion are available from ford motorsport- the carrier is from an 04 explorer- this by far would be the best bang for the buck mod you could do in my opinion- so far no downside- mileage the same if not better- much better acceleration- ect- go for it- roadpig
ring and pinion from 8.8 ford- same for live axle/independent- the carriers are different for a live axle 8.8vs independent- our independent 8.8 does not use c clips- axles are retained by outer hub and a locking ring on the inner axle stub that mates to the carrier- so far fuel mileage has gone UP almost .5
mpg- roadpig
part #s as follows-hypertech speedo calibrator- 742007
limited slip carrier- 2L2Z-4026-AA
ring and pinion- FOM-4209-G430M
your prices may vary- remember- i work for a ford dealer and get a discount on parts- ill see about taking a few digital pictures- not sure how to post them though- vehicle rpms at 65mph approx 2100- i checked the speedo by pacing my daughters escape at 60 and 65 and it was dead on with her stock
escape- those revs at highway speeds ok in my opinion- fuel mileage still up approx 8 tenths of a mile per gallon after driving the car today- roadpig
The LSD Part Number you posted is for a 31 spline axle....I thought we had 28 spline? I could be wrong. But if your system is working and that truely is the Part number then I am def doing this mod!
