I have read multiple posts asking for the location of the GEM on an '02 Explorer. Nobody answers their posts.

I have a complete electronic failure (no nothing - turn the key, speedo stuck at 120, faint glow of airbag light, no power anything-windows, lights, radio, nothing). This happened after replacing the transmission. I couldn't get the neutral safety switch aligned. I decided to bypass it and failed miserably.

I have the dash all apart on my '02 4.6L. I see several modules but none are the GEM. Does anyone know where it is?

OR does anyone know what else I should be testing, checking, or looking for?

Thanks

Welcome aboard!! :salute:

The GEM is behind the glove box. I will get some pics of it and post up later today.

Thanks Icepickjazz. You at least got me into the right time zone. I found it. Not behind the glove box. You first take off the passenger side door sil, then the kick panel on the passenger side. It is above the ECM, above some big white connector, on the right hand side wall. Now I havew to find a way to get it out of there. Once I figure a better way to get at it I'll take some pictures.

Not so fast folks!!!!

You see I have two '02 Explorers. One built in Dec of '01 and another Jul of '02. I did a quick check on the Dec-built one and found the GEM as stated above.

However, the one I am having my problems with is the Jul-built one. Guess what, the GEM is not there on the later model.

So..... I'm still in the same predicament. Any ideas folks?

I believe the GEM is located here. This is the view with the glove box dropped down:

I gotta say I'm stumped. I don't even see the PCM in that pic. I will check my shop manuals and post up any pertinent info tomorrow.

Sorry forgot to tell I already took the PCM out. If you look closely, you can see the back bracket of the PCM hanging down. I also have pics looking into the glove box in the other direction, behind the radio and climate control, and behind the gauge cluster. I will post them if you think it would help.

Only other info that I think might help is that it is an Eddie Bauer version.

Thanks much!

so where is the doggone thing? I am having all sorts of problems, and I think if I can test the bloody module, I will find a solution.

This thing is even harder to find than the Loch Ness Monster or the Sasquatch!
