07 Explr XLT (my 5th one)
Hi everyone, and happy Spring.
On my 07 Explorer XLT, the tone of the horn has changed. Back in the day....my first car (a 65 GTO) had the same problem. That car had two horns like most GMs....but they made different tones to combine into one tone. So as a kid with little money, I went to the junkyard and bought a used horn and fixed it. Ah, those were the days.

Do the Gen 4 Explorers have the same deal ? I'm guessing, but knowing the way manufacturers are these days....it's probably an assembly of two horns ??? And you can't just replace the one failed horn ?

Anyone have experience with this repair ? I took a peek under the hood and don't see anything, and I also slid under and also don't see anything. But when I toot the horn, it sounds like it's coming from the driver side front.....perhaps I have to remove the battery to see it (or them) ? Any tips on where to locate the horn or horns...and what I have to remove to gain access ? And will I be buying an "assembly" with two horns ? Thanks everyone....and RIP Ted the moderator.

Here a link to a page that addresses the same issue/same year. Good luck: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/horn-location.289146/

Thanks....already handled it earlier today....was running low on time and just went at it. Horn assembly is on my desk and new OEM Ford part ordered ($40). Ford part # 6L2Z 13832-AB. Turns out you need to remove some of the inner fender liner (driver side)....it's in 2 parts....remove the lower front part of the liner.....and then remove some of the fasteners for the remaining part that goes over the wheel....pull it back and wedge it on top of the tire and the horn assembly is right up there...one bolt and it slide out of a groove. On my truck it was the high horn that failed. I ordered the OEM part from a dealer and it comes with the bracket and both the low and high horns. Thought it would cost a fortune but $40 ain't bad at all. Did some research on other replacement brands and the reviews were not great.
