Ok so you unlock the explorer, get in, drive the vehicle and the doors automatically lock. You open the drivers door, walk around to get your kid out and curse because the door is locked. Walk around to the drivers door, hit the unlock button and proceed with your mission. Does anyone know if I can override this feature? I would prefer to have control over the doors being locked/unlocked.

Thanks!

I know exactly what your talking about PIA. . .i hate the fact there is no key or button pad on the passenger side, i've made many trips back and forth haha.

With my '04 i have the message center, there is an option to turn off auto-unlock. I thought there was a way to disable it using the key etc.

When my kids where younger i left it on for safety. I just trained myself to hit the unlock button, or keep the fob handy. Its worse when the front doors unlock when you pull the handle but the rears don't. Since my kid is 8yrs now, she knows to manually unlock it.

if you dont have the message center or your message center doesnt have the lock override option (like mine) then there is a way to do it with the keypad, info is in your owners manual..
If you need it, let me know

I have been searching forever for a solution. I seen in the manual where you can turn auto-lock off, but not where you can set an "auto-unlock" like most modern cars have.

I like the "auto-lock", I just want it to "auto-unlock" when you put the car in Park or open the driver door. I can't remmeber the last car I owned that did not do this.

Can you confirm there is no "auto-unlock" for the EX?

oh sorry,
no i do not know, haven't seen or heard of it so i doubt it

Yea no "auto-unlock" but as gamecocks you can turn off the "auto-lock".

Mine didn't come with an owners manual so if you would be kind enough to list the steps I would certainly appreciate it.

Thanks!

This autolock feature is probably the most annoying feature I've ever encountered on any vehicle ever.

You must complete steps 1-5 with-in 30 seconds or the procedure needs to be repeated, you must wait 30 seconds:
1. Turn the ignition key to ON
2. Press the power door unlock control (drivers door) 3 times
3. Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF
4. Press the power door unlock control 3 times
5. Turn the ignition back to ON. The horn will chirp
6. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was deactivated or twice if autolock was activated.
7. Turn the ignition to OFF. The horn will chirp once to confirm the procedure is complete.

Thanks! I'll let you know how it turns out.
