I have been learning what it takes to repair, replace, and maintain our ‘99 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0L SOHC, Jane.
I have successfully (with my husbands help):
Cleaned the Air Filter
Cleaned the MAF
Cleaned the IAC and Throttle-body
Replaced the blower motor resistor
Replaced the upper and lower gaskets (complete gong show, I missed connecting two hoses and thought I totally flubbed! It was thanks to the forum that I found answers and the knowledge that others had done the same repair, and mistake!)
We plan to:
Replace all brake pads and rotors (front and back)
Get new tires (these have been worn down quite a bit)
Replace the muffler (HUGE crack down the side)
Replace spark plugs (haven’t been done ...in a while)
We were going to:
Replace the fuel filter - mechanic says it looks brand new
Replace EGR Valve - turns out we didn’t need to!
Replace the ball joints - we are within allowable “play” - should be done in 6-8 months (if she’s still running)
