I was looking at some aftermarket springs... but was wondering if they are stiffer than stock or not?
are they supposed to improve handling just due to the fact they lower the center of gravity about 1.6 inches or because they are stiffer?

or is it better to get sway bars or aftermarket shocks...

... for an '04 4x2 xls

They're shorter and stiffer. I have them on my '02 XLT 4X4 and can definately notice the additional ride harshness but it doesn't bother me too much in light of the handling gains.

ah.. ok.. so they are stiffer... did you need to get compatible/shorter shocks? or did you kept the stock?..

hey... have any pics?

I'm currently using the GF springs with the stock shocks which seem to work well enough. Will post a picture once I get around to taking some.

thanks... HotDuck... no bottom-ing out??? so no need for shorter shocks... nice... how low does it get when you have your truck loaded up??

I'm asking becuase i pull a boat every now and them... and if i lower my truck... while pulling the boat might get some rubbing??

let me know about the pics so i can see them

Haven't had the need for stiffer shocks yet and I've gone off curbs (not intentionally!) and hit some severe potholes without bottoming. When I bought the GF springs, I spoke with the folks at Explorer Express and they said that the springs work good with the stock shocks. Having never towed a boat, I can't tell you whether or not you might get rubbing.

hey ram1200

I have Eibachs and aftermarket Manroe shocks. I originally put on the Eibachs without the shocks. And to be quite honest.... I felt the straight rides smoother and nicer than stock springs. But the corning was outstanding. It felt like a sports car on tight turns.

The Manroe shocks are stock length. With my set up now I love the way it rides.. more comfortable than stock... in my opinion.. I feel safer and trust my X more. But I really do think its a more confortable ride. My tires are also 295-40-20's. My Eibachs are progressive rated springs and I tow trailers with three dirt bikes and a PACKED 2nd and 3rd rows with NO rubbing issues... NEVER.

You can see a pic of how low it is on my home page. I think Eibach discontinued making springs from 2002-2005 X's. If memory serves me right Eibachs and GF lower the front the same @ 1.6, but the rear GF lowers 1.6 and the Eibach .6

Good luck
