i have a 99 XLT 5.0L ... i was looking into purchasing a Gibson cat back system. But here is the problem I have been to 2 differnt auto parts places and both of them called up Gibson and both had different answers to my question.

I wanted to know if the exhaust will go strait out the back or is it going to go out the side? In their literature the exhaust that they say will fit my explorer is called side something and has a picture of a side exhaust. But in smaller print it says something about going strait out the back. Does anyone have a 5.0L explorer with a Gibson system and can give me a deffinate answer as to where the exhaust comes out? I want an exhaust that goes out the back not off to the side. And i have not had much luck at all with muffler shops around here so having a pipe bent is out of the question. Thanx

I can't give you a definate answer, but i would bet it exits out the back. I got the gibson "side swept" for my 98 V6 and it exits in the back, even though it's advertized to have a side exit.

Yea see that is what i was confused about. But since yours comes out the back mine probably will too. Thanx for your response. How does it sound? I know you have a V6 but i am just looking for a little extra rumble outof my V8. Do you think it will be too loud? Or is it just a little louder than stock?

I think you'll like the way it sounds. Mine's not overpowering, but it has a nice deep rumple at low speeds. On the highway it's not loud enough to be annoying. There was a website with a few soundclips i listened to before buying it. Go to the projects section at mysporttrac.com and you should find it.
