I have a 2002 Merc Mountaineer and I just put a Gibson Side swept exhaust on and I find it a little to noisy on take off. Has any one had any experience with these cat back systems?

If you like noise it gave me about 20 ponies and 2.5 mpg on the hwy which puts me about 23.5 at 55mph and about 21 at 70 mph. Who would have thought with a V8 and AWD.

20HP gain? did you dyno it or is that just the manufacture's claim? Is that RWHP gain or at the crank?

I have a Gibson Swept Side Exhaust on my '99 explorer with the 5.0L and I find that the exhaust is fairly quiet compared to my brother's 2004 explorer with 4.6L and a JBA catback.

gibson's are usually quiet

This is manufactures claim but let me tell you you can feel the diffrence from the seat of you pants.

any pics of the exhaust?

did you install it yourself or have someone do it? btw, where did u get it? im looking at a gibson side sweep as well but want to know if you have the same one. the one im looking at is aluminized steel not stainless, is that yours?

jUST TO LET ANYONE THAT WANTS TO KNOW.....

.....go to Flowmasterexhaust.com and look for explorer parts. Anything over $50 is free shipping, I think, and they have a whole lot of crap, including Flowmaster and Gibson cat back exhaust systems. Their prices are good too.

awesome, thanks!

EDIT: i tried putting that in as the URL but it doesnt seem to come up with anything. are you sure that is that site?

I didn't take any pic but if you go on the gibsons web site it looks the same as the picture. It took me alittle over an hour on the garage floor with basic hand tools and a sawsall (to cut the old one off). The hardest part was removing the clamp over the axle on a 3 year old system. But it really was a piece of cake putting the new one on.

Yes I bought the aluminized one. It took me alittle over an hour on the garage floor with basic hand tools and a sawsall to cut the old one off. The hardest part was removing the clamp over the axle on a 3 year old system. But it really was a piece of cake putting the new one on.

The only problem is I notice is that around 2500 rpms it gets significatly louder. IF you decide to get one let me know how yours sounds. I also have the 4.6 V8. What engine do you have?

I also bought it at www.autoanything.com and I paid $247.75.

mine in only 6 months old, so it shouldnt be as hard as yours to get off (i hope not anyways). i have the V6, so it most likely wont be as loud as yours. ill let you know once i get it and put it on. i am most likely getting this one as quickly as money allows. overall, how long did it take you to install? also, is it necessary to have a sawsall or similar type tool?

Part of the removal requires you to cut the pipe behind the muffler, and with a sawsall it makes it alot easier but I'm sure you can do it with a hacksaw or something like that.
