hey gang,

i'm thinking about going with a gibson single exhaust system or perhaps just the muffler. i'm planning to go with a kkm intake and apten chip and would like to open it up a little on the back end. how much of an audible difference is this setup to stock? from some of the posts i've read, it sounds as though there is a lower, deeper rumble. that's fine, i would prefer not to introduce an audible 'drone' when cruising down the highway. is there any merit to doing the muffler only?

cheers,

I did the Gibson exhaust last year. I used the stainless steel setup...muffler and pipe.
The sound is definitely a bit throatier than stock...deeper, and rumblier.
It is NOT as loud as a Flowmaster setup. The drone is not bad. I can hear inside the cab just fine...and as long as you are not stomping on the throttle, the noise is nice. Once you stomp on the gas, the sound comes to life until you lift.
I don't really notice a huge increase in sound level inside the cab, but when I let my wife drive by the house...the sound is a LOT better than stock!!! I think the sound is just right, but everyone has their favorites.
My comparison is the flowmasters on my 93 stang. That was way too loud for highway driving. The drone alone would give me a headache...and I never bothered to turn on the stereo because I could not hear it.
The Gibson setup fit like a glove. I would get it with the exhaust pipe. It fits and looks great. I got my setup from www.truckperformance.com
Good luck,
Ken
